Tech Tip: Lay the new thermostat in the housing spring side toward the cylinder and place a small bead of silicone on the housing and lay the gasket in place and let dry.

After the silicone has dried lay another bead on the dry side of the gasket and install on the cylinder head.

Doing this will prevent the thermostat from dropping down while the outlet is being bolted to the head and potentially cracking the water outlet.
